Our Milks
Yes! We are Australian owned and operated and we make all our milks locally too.
We’re proud to source our core ingredient – oats – fresh from local Australian farmers. Where we can, we’re also trying to source the rest of our ingredients locally. Our milks are then manufactured and packed in Sydney.
Although our oats are not certified organic, in Australia glyphosate and other nasties cannot be sprayed pre harvest, which is where the residues come from in many other countries. Australian oats are in demand internationally due to this regulation :)
We looked long and hard to source soybeans from Australia and have been working with Soy Australia to explore options. Right now, no local processors can mill soybeans finely enough to meet our product quality standards - yet! But it's something we’re committed to making happen as we grow.
In the meantime, we use non-GMO soybeans from China, sourced from trusted partners. They are not certified organic, but each batch is independently lab-tested to confirm non-GMO status and that it contains NIL glyphosate.
Our goal is to lead the shift toward a cleaner, more planet-friendly plant milk, and that means starting now and improving as we grow!
Our Oat Milk is neutral and crisp tasting whereas our Barista Oat has a bit more avocado oil to give it a stronger taste and has a higher alkalinity to balance out the acidity of coffee. It is great for those who are used to the stronger taste of a barista version. But if you prefer a clean crisp and oaty taste, our plain oat milk may be better for you. Both milks froth, with our oat barista being the most frothy!
If Nimbus powder is unopened and stored in a cool, dry place, it will last at least up until the best before date. The best before date will vary depending on when the batch was made, but should be at least 6 months away, usually much more.
Once opened, keep it sealed, cool and moisture free between uses, and it will last a 3-6 months depending on conditions. This could mean storing it in the fridge in warmer climates.
Once shaken with water, store in the fridge and consume within 3-5 days if it is in a clean bottle. As natural separation may occur, give it a quick shake before your next drink. Make up only as much as you need to keep your milk lasting longer – it only takes a moment to shake up a new batch!
All our XL bags are now resealable! We recommend decanting some of this into a sealed jar or tub for daily use, then sealing the bag tightly to limit air and moisture exposure. Stored like this in a cool, dry place, it’ll stay fresh for 3+ months depending on conditions.
We only recommend our XL bag for households using 3 litres or more a week so that it remains fresh to the end! If you use less than this, our bulk box might be a better choice.
We recommend making your Nimbus milk in advance and using our Nimbus scoop and bottle to make consistent-tasting delicious plant milk as simply as possible.
Use one level scoop per 250ml serve (a heaped scoop for Soy Milk!), fill the bottle to the corresponding cloud mark for the number of serves you wish to prepare, pop the lid on and have fun shaking until it is completely dissolved. If any undissolved powder is left at the bottom of the bottle, this will dissipate over time as the powder continues to absorb water for the next few hours, so just give the bottle another shake later and it will be completely smooth. Your milk may separate between uses (this happens inside a carton too!), so just give it a quick shake before pouring.
You can also make the milk in any container with a lid, such as an empty jar. Just add 3 x 15ml tbsp powder to 225ml water, shake and voila - you'll have a 250ml serving of plant milk! You can also stir the powder into water, but it takes a bit more effort to get it perfectly smooth!
Our Nimbus scoop measures 45ml and is the perfect accessory to measure the right amount of powder consistently. Use one level scoop per 250ml serve (heaped for soy milk!), or 4 scoops per litre.
If you don’t have the scoop, no problem! Use 3 level 15ml tablespoons per serve instead. (heaped for soy!).
Our Nimbus Scoop measures 45ml, so approximately 3 x 15ml tbsp, or 2 heaped x 20ml tbsp.
A level scoop is approximately 25g of oat or barista powder, which makes a 250ml serve.
A heaped scoop is approximately 20g of soy powder, which makes a 250ml serve.
Absolutely! We recommend heating your made-up Nimbus first for best results in both tea and coffee - or heat and froth it for that café-style feel.
It’s also a dream in chai, turmeric and matcha lattes.
Because we keep our ingredients clean and simple (no emulsifiers or fillers), some natural separation can happen in hot drinks if they sit for a while - just give it a quick stir and you’re good to go!
You can even scoop the powder straight into hot drinks as an instant creamer - perfect for travel, work, or when you're out and about.
Pro tip: Let your milk rest after mixing. 5–10 minutes is great, but overnight in the fridge is even better. This gives the powder time to fully rehydrate, making it extra smooth and helping reduce separation in hot drinks. Heating before adding to hot drinks will also help avoid separation - like with all plant milks.
Yes! All our milks froth — but our Soy Milk and Oat Barista are the frothiest of the bunch!
Our Soy Milk froths super easily thanks to its naturally higher protein content — it’s a dream in coffee, with rich microfoam and no tweaking needed.
Oat-based milks, like our Classic Oat and Oat Barista, do behave a little differently from carton milk since they start as a powder and contain much less oil. But with a couple of small tweaks, you can get a beautifully creamy, café-style froth at home.
Top tips for frothing our oat powders:
- Use slightly less water: Start with 1 scoop (25g) per 200ml instead of 250ml for extra creaminess and froth.
- Choose the longest frothing cycle: Some frothers (like the Nespresso) have short cycles that don’t give our powder enough time to froth properly. Use the longest cycle available, or give it an extra round.
- Let in a little extra air: Our Oat Barista loves a bit of extra air - whether you’re steaming or using a hand frother, try adjusting your technique to let more air in.
- Let it rest (if you can!): While you can drink it straight away, letting your milk sit for 5–10 minutes (or overnight in the fridge) improves texture and frothing.
To keep your milk smooth, we recommend shaking it up in your Nimbus bottle, an empty jar, or any other enclosed container. If you prefer stirring, make sure there’s enough room for a vigorous stir.
The granules will continue to absorb water for a few hours, so don't worry about any undissolved powder as it will slowly dissipate into a perfectly smooth liquid. We find that for best results (and full flavour!), it's best to make it a bit in advance of use.
Pro tip: Making up a full litre? Add your 4 scoops first, then fill the bottle about three-quarters with water. Give it a solid shake, then top up to 1L and shake again. This little trick helps everything mix super smoothly — no lumps, just creamy goodness!
Use the water you enjoy drinking normally – it’s really down to personal preference. If you prefer your milk cool, use cold or iced water (we love iced water!).
Unfortunately not all of them. Oats cannot be labelled gluten free in Australia as they may come into contact with wheat, rye or barley in the growing and production process. This means our Oat Milk and Oat Barista milks all carry a gluten warning.
Try our Soy Milk for a gluten-free and planet-friendly option!
Yes! All of our plant milk powders are GMO free.
Xanthan gum is an all-natural pea-based fibre that helps to create a slightly creamier texture to our milks. While it sounds technical, the name comes from the bacteria (Xanthomonas campestris) used in fermenting the peas, creating a gooey and soluble fibre. It may also act as a prebiotic and encourage the growth of healthy bacteria in the gut. Studies have even shown that in large amounts it can slow down digestion and reduce blood sugar levels. We however only use the tiniest amount! It’s also entirely dairy-free & gluten-free.
Whilst it seems counter-intuitive to reducing waste, we think producing a high quality, long-life bottle is a good decision.
Not only is it producing less waste than single-use cartons in the long run, but our bottle is much more sustainable than the alternatives. The Nimbus bottle is made from Tritan Renew – a tough, BPA & BPS-free, food-safe material made from 50% recycled plastic.
Our first thought was to make the bottle of glass, but when we looked into it further, the facts tell a different story. Glass actually requires the highest energy usage to produce and uses so much more fuel to transport due to its weight, making its overall environmental impact 5+ times higher than plastic! Even recycled glass requires really high energy usage to produce :(
When compared to plastic with recycled content (like our bottle), we can save up to 90% of emissions compared to glass usage.
It is such a difficult process to decide which materials to use, but we are committed to using the lowest impact materials even if plastic has a bad reputation, as our whole company is built on reducing emissions and waste with no greenwashing.
Our reusable bottle is also very light and therefore easy to shake (glass was just too heavy for this!), fits perfectly inside the door of your refrigerator, and is dishwasher safe (although we recommend hand washing for best results).
Your bottle might get a bit of residue on it from shaking up your milk and this is normal - it happens inside a carton too. The high protein content in the soy milk makes this particularly visible.
We recommend half filling your bottle with soapy water between uses, giving it a big shake and then cleaning it out with a bottle brush before rinsing.
Although the bottle is dishwasher safe, we see better results by rinsing the bottle straight after use, and this also protects the print on the bottle, which may rub off after many dishwasher cycles (depending on dishwasher and detergent).
The silicone seal in the lid is also removable if it needs a clean, but make sure the lid and seal are completely dry before re-inserting.
New seals are available to prolong the life of your bottle!
If your milk’s fridge-life suddenly shortens, it’s almost always because the bottle isn’t completely clean - even a tiny bit of lingering bacteria can make fresh milk spoil faster. Cartons are single-use and sterilised, but reusable bottles need a deeper clean every so often.
Give yours a proper refresh with hot water, bicarb, lemon juice and a thorough scrub (or sterilise it if you can). Once the bottle is truly squeaky-clean, your milk should keep beautifully again.
Whilst our milks contain nutrient-rich ingredients and added calcium, oat milk is not naturally high in protein. If your child relies on dairy as an important source of protein, oat milk should not be seen as a complete milk replacement. Our soy milk does contain 7.5g of protein per serve, so this is a great option for children!
Natural separation may occur between uses (this happens in cartons too, you just can’t see it!) but a quick shake will fix this.
Not yet! Almond is tricky to get as smooth as our oat and soy milks, but we're still working on it.
In the meantime, our oat milk might surprise you – it's super low in fat and sugar at just 1g per 100ml (some oat milks have 4-5g!). It's the lowest sugar oat milk out there, so definitely worth a try if you don't have an oat allergy. Fingers crossed we'll crack almond soon!
Packaging & Recycling
Our new pouches are made from an brand new innovative material - PP (polypropylene) with a less than 1% vacuum metalised polymer layer to add extra protection from moisture, light and oxygen. This means they still adhere to the standards for recyclability via RecycleSmart, Curby, or returning to us, but have 10x better protection against moisture and oxygen compared to our old pouches! This means longer shelf life without additives, and less food waste.
All of our boxes are made from 100% recycled cardboard. Our Reusable Bottles are made from 50% recycled Tritan — a BPA & BPS-free plastic. Our Scoops are made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic (that would have otherwise have ended up in landfill!).
We’re proud to say our products require 90% less packaging than traditional milk cartons. In fact, 1 litre of regular plant milk requires 30g of packaging, whereas the amount of powder needed to make 1 litre of Nimbus requires 3g of packaging (or 1.2g/L in our XL bag!). Check out our video explaining our packaging choices here.here.
By taking less virgin resources out of the earth and offering a recycling solution, we hope to be a part of the move towards a more circular economy.
While this is our current packaging makeup, we’re always on the hunt for better and more sustainable ways to house our products as well!
We thought long and hard about this and although it is an exciting future proposition, current systems to compost this type of packaging are few and far between. While it’s great to compost at home, this is not an option for everyone – our worms certainly don’t like bioplastics! To add to this, many councils don’t collect FOGO waste (food organics and garden organics). If compostable plastic does end up in landfill like other waste, it generates methane, a greenhouse gas far worse for the environment than carbon dioxide. Compostable plastics also don’t offer the same protection that plastics do, leading to milk with a shorter shelf life and a potentially greater food waste problem.
Yes! Our pouches are made from mono polymers with a less than 1% vacuum metalised layer. They are designed to be recycled again and conform to the standards required for recycling. As recycling systems are ever growing and changing, we decided to put all the information you need here instead of printing it on the packaging. You can find a short guide for our products here:
- Pouch – Recyclable via local soft plastic schemes e.g. ReSmart or Curby, or return to us!
- Cardboard Mailers – Curb-side recyclable.
Click here to see if you are fortunate enough to live in an area with a ReSmart pick up for soft plastics. If not, we have partnered with ReSmart to recycle your Nimbus pouches and sachets for you - woohoo! Just follow these simple steps:
- Collect 6-8 pouches, then flatten them completely.
- Put them in a paper envelope with max dimensions 36x26cm and max 2cm thick (these are the AusPost large letter dimensions).
- Affix 2x $1.7 stamps (we will send you a $3.4 store credit to cover this!).
- Write the name and email you use for Nimbus orders on the envelope, so we know where to send the store credit.
- Address to: NIMBUS RECYCLING, 64 Argyle Place, Millers Point NSW 2000
- Pop in a post box and celebrate zero waste (notes welcome)!
PLEASE NOTE: The envelope cannot be thicker than 2cm or heavier than 125g, otherwise it becomes a parcel and costs more and we can only reimburse $3.4. We worked this out to be about 6-8 pouches completely flattened and spread out in the envelope. That's 30+ litres of plant milk packaging in one envelope! We process our recycling monthly, so please be a little patient waiting for the store credit to hit your inbox :)
Our partners at ReSmart collect and consolidate your soft plastics before sending them to APR Plastics and other partners. At APR they are processed, shredded, and converted into feedstock oil. This oil is then turned into resin which enables it to become flexible food packaging again. Another partner mixes them with toner powder from printer cartridges to create an asphalt additive used in road construction, and another combines them with upcycled materials to produce kitchen benches, roof panels, walls and more.
If you'd like more details, there is a great video of the full process here.
A big thank you to the innovators at ReSmart for making this possible - you are amazing!
All our orders are shipped in 100% recycled cardboard boxes. These can then be recycled (again!) via your curb-side recycling.
We avoid adding promotional material or information cards into our shipments. Whilst these may be nice, they are usually thrown straight in the bin!
Subscriptions
We think our loyal Nimbus drinkers deserve to benefit from the best discounts! That's why we have introduced a tiered subscription discount:
1st subscription order = 10% off RRP
2nd subscription order = 15% off RRP
3rd subscription order + = 20% off RRP & VIP Status for the life of the subscription
These discount tiers will be applied automatically, and you can check your loyalty discount in your account.
If you cancel your subscription the VIP status gets cancelled too, so do consider pausing instead of cancelling if you already have enough plant milk or are off on holidays!
Each new subscription starts at the first tier of 10% discount, so it is possible you could have various subscriptions at different tiers of discount.
To manage your subscription head to the Nimbus website and click on ‘Account’ at the top right. From there, follow the prompts to sign up or log in to your account. Once you’re logged in and on your Dashboard, you should see your Active subscriptions. Click manage. Here you can see your next delivery, update the frequency, change the date, see what items are included in it, add one-time extras and you have the options to pause or cancel your subscription. Delivery & Returns
We deliver using standard AusPost delivery, to reduce the emissions created by more transport intensive courier routes. Orders are usually shipped from Sydney the same or next business day, and take between 1-8 business days to reach their destination in Australia, and possibly longer for New Zealand depending on AusPost's speed.
Orders shipped to Christmas Island, Cocos Islands, Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island are automatically shipped by Express post, but unfortunately we cannot guarantee AusPost's fulfilment of this request, nor the arrival times to these areas. We regret that we cannot refund a delayed order until it is deemed lost in transit by Australia Post.
All orders require a signature on delivery. If you'd like to give permission to leave your order in a safe place, this can be done for all future deliveries (or individual parcels) via your Australia Post MyPost account. Just make sure you use the same email for your Nimbus deliveries and your MyPost account for this to work!
To Australian metro areas, shipping is only $7.95 per order, free for orders over $59 (including subscription orders). Shipping to regional areas and New Zealand will be calculated at checkout, and also includes a discount for orders over $59.
We encourage large orders, less frequently to lower emissions!
We ship Australia wide from Sydney, and have tried to keep our metro shipping area as broad as possible.
Our metro shipping area cover the following areas in Australia: NSW (except country areas), VIC (except country areas), QLD (except country areas), SA (except country areas), Canberra and inner Perth.
Shipping costs for all other areas are calculated at checkout based on your postcode, and also include a discounted rate for orders over $59.
We now ship to New Zealand! We ship from Sydney and unfortunately this comes at a cost that we can't subsidise fully, and we do need to share the cost. For orders over $59 this is $9.95, and for orders under $59 this is $15.95.
We hope to set up distribution to NZ stores soon!
Please note we cannot accept returns, as Nimbus is a food product that cannot be repackaged or resold. However, if your order was damaged or faulty, please email us so we can help resolve the issue.
Wholesale
Yes! We work with Unique Health Products to distribute our products to Australian stores.
